The Vienna Humanities Festival returns for its fifth incarnation from 27th September to 2nd October 2022, this time looking at the impacts of war, inflation and the aftermath of the pandemic in Europe.
About the debate:
Today the world seems out-of-joint. The Russian invasion of Ukraine in February brought full-scale war back to Europe. Terror, bombing, atrocities & mass deportations are suddenly part of our daily reality. The war has plunged an already unsteady world into deeper uncertainty. Still grappling with the economic and public health consequences of the pandemic, we now face spiralling inflation driven by rocketing energy and food prices. The post-1989 period of hope and trust in liberal and democratic values has evaporated in just a few short years. The accelerating speed of technological innovation makes it difficult to keep pace with the changes it induces.
How far-reaching will the effects of this historical turning point be? At the Vienna Humanities Festival, The Age of Uncertainty, some of today’s brightest minds will navigate the seas of uncertainty to find answers in unexpected places. This fifth edition of the Vienna Humanities Festival will be held at the Rathaus, the Technische Universität and the Akademie der bildenden Künste from Tuesday 27th September until Sunday 2nd October.
