Patrick Hayes is the business development analyst for the CEO of TSL Education, publishers of TES and Times Higher Education and host to the largest network of teachers in the world. He has previously worked as TSL’s head of research and development, having started as a researcher on the TES’s newsdesk.
He is an associate of the Institute of Ideas, and a columnist for spiked magazine, The Huffington Post and Free Society. In a voluntary capacity, he sits on the committee of the Battle of Ideas festival, which he helped establish in 2005. He is also the director of the non-profit Young Journalists’ Academy for disadvantaged state-school students.
He regularly comments on current affairs topics for a range of local, national and international media programmes and broadcasters, including Newsnight, Sunday Morning Live, The Big Questions, Channel 4, Channel 5, Sky News, RT, BBC Radio 2, BBC Radio 4 and Radio 5 Live. He frequently participates in public debates, including those at the Cambridge Union Society, the Oxford Union and the PPA [Professional Publishers Association]’s Westminster Debate at the Houses of Parliament.
He holds a first-class degree in philosophy from the University of Warwick, an MA from the University of Sussex and an Executive MBA specialising in business strategy from Henley Business School. He has contributed chapters to the OUP [Oxford University Press]’s Guide to Further Education and The Lure of the City (Pluto).
