Nikolay Mihaylov has worked as a practicing psychiatrist and professor of psychiatry and psychology.
He was one of the founding members and a member of the national leadership of the right-wing political party, Democrats for a Strong Bulgaria (DSB). In 2005, he was elected as a member of parliament for the DSB and, during his time in parliament, he served as a deputy-chairman of the Parliamentary Commission for Human Rights and Religions.
Since leaving the DSB and parliamentary politics, Mihaylov has been widely known in Bulgaria as a political commentator whose political and social analyses are often based on psychiatric theories and concepts.
