The Red House
The Red House Centre for Culture and Debate is a multifunctional cultural and socio-political centre in Sofia. It is a space where artistic experiment, intellectual curiosity and civic engagement meet. The Red House’s predominant values are an open minded approach, a lack of prejudice and tolerance in the face of alternative values.
Established in 2001, The Red House was the first initiative in Bulgaria to stage open and accessible debates and to regularly host public talks and discussions as a central constituent part of its activities.
The Red House programme consists of exhibitions, debates, public lectures, open seminars, pieces from the performing arts, literary events and daily presentations of documentary films. The Red House looks for artistic works and produces public debates and other discursive formats which help to stimulate and maintain and active, informed and intellectually curious citizenry. A specific focus is on topics and themes that are important for Bulgarian society and yet are nonetheless insufficiently articulated in conventional media sources.
