Alessandra Sciurba is a research fellow at the University of Palermo, undertaking a project on the wages of migrant women in Italy. She received her doctorate from the University of Palermo with a thesis on administrative detention centres and areas of concentration of migrants, which won the Dino Frisullo prize in 2008. Since 2010, she has worked for the Research and Development Division of the Council of Europe on issues of poverty and human rights, working on projects looking at the issue of migration, borders and nationalities. She is also an activist, who campaigns for migrant rights and edits the Melting Pot Europe website, which also deals with issues surrounding migration and human rights.
