Martin M. Šimečka is a Slovak writer and journalist. Before 1989, he was only able to publish his work in samizdat formats. After 1989, he co-founded the Archa Publishing House, later becoming editor of the critical magazine Domino-Fórum. From 1997 to 2006, he worked for the newpaper SME, spending seven years as its editor-in-chief before moving to the Prague socio-political publication Respekt, where he was editor-in-chief from 2006-2009 and presently works as a Bratislava-based editor. He also sits on the board of the daily publication Projekt N. His personal publications include Džin [The Genie] and Záujem [Interest], as well as an edited collection of his father’s letters from prison, Světelná znamení [Light Signals], and a book of essays, Hľadanie obáv [Looking for Concerns].
