Chris Keulemans is a writer and journalist based in Amsterdam. He grew up in Baghdad, Iraq. In 1984 he founded the literary bookshop Perdu before starting work at the De Balie centre for culture and politics, first as a curator and then as its director. After working for De Balie he became the artistic director of Tolhuistuin, a free space for arts & culture in Amsterdam, where he stayed until autumn 2014.
Chris has published plays, books – both fiction and non-fiction – and numerous articles on art, social movements, migration, music, cinema and war. He has travelled extensively to study post-crisis art, visiting Beirut, Jakarta, Algiers, Prishtina, Sarajevo, Tirana, New York, New Orleans and Ramallah.
