Brent Bleys is an economics lecturer at the University of Gent, Belgium. He lectures on subjects including macroeconomics, understanding statistics, sustainable development, environmental economics and environmental policy. In his research, he looks at alternative indicators of economic affluence, such as the Index of Sustainable Economic Welfare and other measurements of welfare and happiness. This research fits within the broader beyond GDP debate, which questions the necessity of economic growth as a basis for economic studies and informs alternative policy approaches from an eco-economic perspective
