Agota Revesz is a researcher at Berlin’s Freie Universität, who previously spent six years in China as a Hungarian diplomat. Her current research looks at contemporary practices in Chinese public diplomacy. And. before moving to China, she spent several years working as a stage director, writing her doctorate on traditional Chinese theatre, the connection between culture and diplomacy and the role assigned to traditional performing arts in China’s recent efforts to increase its soft power.
Agota considers herself a mediator between cultures and hopes that her research might help ease communication between China and the West. Her mother tongue is Hungarian, but she is fluent in English, Chinese and German. She has a son, Julian, and two cats of Chinese origin.
